Heartland® colorants are non-hazardous, making the mulch you deliver completely safe for
shrubs, plants, pets and children. Our commitment to the environment also means our colorants are free
of harmful toxins. Toxic emissions are a major cause of ozone pollution, and a significant part of the
toxins released into the atmosphere come from industrial paints and coatings.
For the record, we’ve always used water-based formulations (rather than solvent-based), and periodically we invite independent laboratories to test our colorants to confirm our products are non-toxic.
Amerimulch submitted our Heartland Ultra Colorants to an independent, accredited laboratory for testing. The results showed our colorants, which were studied for acute exposure through ingestion, inhalation, dermal contact, and eye contact, are indeed non-toxic and qualify for Category IV, the lowest-concern category the test recognizes.
